This week on AthleticPR we have an article from legendary throwing coach Joe Donahue. Joe talks about coach as teacher and motivator and the points he makes will work with all athletes not just throwers.

Hey I figured I'd ask on here if anyone has more of a Physical Therapy or AT background than I do and maybe I can get some advice. About 3 months ago, I sprained my ankle, I went through about 8 weeks of Physical Therapy for it, and it started to get a lot better, and all the sudden during a legs workout it "cramped" (just the best way I can describe the pain) up on me, made me stop my workout lasted for about 25 minutes. I felt it in the ligament and right in the Talus, I could dorsiflex, but couldn't extend my foot down at all. Anyways after it went away I didn't think much of it, but now it contiues to come back constantly anytime I try and do anything active with my ankle beyond walking (playing basketball, running any agility stuff) it comes back and stays for a long period of time sometimes even hours. It basically feels like everytime I do anything active it feels like I re-sprain/strain it. It actually feels more recently like its been getting worse, and its to the point where I can't even do jumping jacks (like when leading a group class) without it getting sore. My other big concern is that when I run my finger over the area I get a tingling feeling down into my final 2 toes which makes me believe that there's something 'impeding' the nerve. So far none of my colleague's and peers have been able to really venture a guess at what might be going on, and I've gotten some advice to get an MRI, and I plan to I'm just waiting for my new insurance to kick in.
Anyways I'm asking for any advice at all because this has completely and 100% affected every single aspect of my life and is making me miserable, is this normal, is this a cramp, is this something that will go away on its own? I'd love any help I can get.

This week on AthleticPR we have an article from Ryan Donahue. He put together a great review of central nervous system fatigue.

I am starting an article series on athleticPR.com “Mobility for the Rower”. This week I take at the Lats, how to stretch them and get them mobile. It is a good read for any overhead athlete.
