University of Wyoming Sports Performance Graduate Assistant Coach

University of Wyoming, a Division I member of the NCAA and the Mountain West Conference is seeking a Graduate Assistant Sports Performance Coach. This position will work with the Olympic Sports and be under the supervision of the Director of Sports Performance for Olympic Sports.

The duties of the position include, but are not limited to, developing and implementing a comprehensive strength and conditioning program for assigned sports. Each program should be scientifically based, using the latest research information related to the sport and strength and conditioning field. Emphasis in programming should be placed on a year-long progressive plan that enhances the athlete’s competitive athletic ability while addressing the need to reduce the likelihood of injury.  Assisting other Sports Performance Coaches with program implementation to large member squads will also be a priority.  Administrative duties include daily/weekly participation in a multi-disciplinary team meeting (Medical team, Nutritionist, Academic Support, Sport Coaches) to assist in finding the means to ensure each Student-Athlete’s success during their athletic career at Wyoming.  Additionally, emphasis is placed on tracking each student-athlete’s subjective and objective measures (GPS, daily wellness, readiness data, strength and conditioning performance numbers) in order to make the appropriate decisions for future training sessions in conjunction with the Sport/Position Coach.  This position will also have the ability to help guide the department in finding the best possible means by which to track our student-athletes athletic performance and physical/mental well-being using the latest in research and technology.

The successful candidate will also be responsible for teaching safe, proper technique in all lifts including Olympic style lifting.  An emphasis will be placed on finding a candidate that effectively communicates and works well with others as this position requires extensive cooperation with other coaches and athletic department staff.  Previous experience working with Sports Medicine in an injury prevention and return to play program is preferred.  This position requires occasional heavy lifting and the ability to work some weekends and holidays based on the assigned sports seasons as well as team travel.  This position will also assist the Sports Nutrition staff with stocking and inventory tracking for the High Altitude Fueling Center.

The successful candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, Sport Science or a related field, a certification from the CSCCa (SCCC) or NSCA (CSCS), be certified in CPR and AED, and have 6 months to 2 years of experience training student-athletes at the collegiate level. A preference will be given to candidates that have previous experience working with multiple Olympic sports in a collegiate setting that emphasizes an all-encompassing approach to improving athletic performance.

To Apply:  Email one pdf document containing a cover letter, resume, and professional references to Mike Cotterman mcotterm@uwyo.edu .  The position is open until filled with an expected starting date of late May or early June 2017.
