The Gardner-Webb University Athletic Performance Department is accepting applications for the position of Graduate Assistant (GA). Gardner-Webb University is a private, Christian, Baptist-related university in Boiling Springs, NC home to 22 NCAA Division I Athletics Programs. This position provides tuition remission for up to 18 graduate hours per year as well as a grant for $5500 spread throughout the year, for a full-year contract (fall, spring, and summer terms). You must be accepted into the Gardner-Webb Graduate School prior to employment. The position is subject to a university background check.

 

Intended start date is August 2017. Successful applicants should have the ability to excel within a collaborative team environment; strong work ethic; effective communication skills; & desire to further one’s career in the field of Athletic Performance/Strength & Conditioning while having a strong commitment to Christian higher education.

 

Responsibilities: Assisting in all aspects of the Gardner-Webb Athletic Performance program, design and implementation of sport specific training programs for 3-4 assigned sports teams; ability to effectively teach and execute proper technique of lifts and drills; supervision of team workouts; assist with the maintenance and upkeep of the Athletic Performance Facility & compliance with all appropriate university, Big South Conference, and NCAA Rules/Regulations.

 

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required as well as working toward or already obtained a certification from an accredited strength and conditioning organization (NSCA, USAW, CSCCa, etc.). Possess CPR/AED and First Aid certification. Experience working in a NCAA/NAIA 4- year college or university weight room with a variety of teams. Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs & Athletic Performance/Strength & Conditioning related technology is encouraged.

Central Connecticut State University is seeking applicants for the position of Sports Performance Intern for the Summer 2017 semester. Responsibilities: Successful candidates will assist in organizing and implementing movement assessments, dynamic warm-ups, speed and agility training, exercise technique progressions, strength training, and performance testing for all student athletes. Interns will also be responsible for weekly assignments and readings, collecting and interpreting testing data, the daily maintenance of equipment and facilities, and the development of instructional videos. Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree required or working towards the completion of; First Aid and CPR certified, CSCS certified or working towards CSCS or other certification, and Division 1 coaching experience. Applications will be accepted until the positions are filled. Compensation: Successful candidates will receive valuable hands-on experience coaching college athletics. University of Texas at San Antonio is currently accepting applications for Summer 2017 volunteer internship positions.  Qualified candidates would work with the Football Strength and Conditioning Department. This is an unpaid position that is responsible for assisting the UTSA Strength and Conditioning staff with the implementation of the Football Summer program, set up and break down of all workouts, maintenance and upkeep of the weight room and facility, and hands on experience training collegiate athletes. Required qualifications include completion or current pursuit of an undergraduate degree in exercise science or a related course of study, a desire to become a strength and conditioning professional, and possess a strong work ethic. Other preferred qualifications include certification from an accredited organization, previous coaching experience, personal involvement in a collegiate competitive sport, and proficiency in teaching and performing Olympic movements. There is no monetary compensation so if this position is not an economically feasible option for you, please do not apply. Official start date would be May 30 and continue through the end of July. Appalachian State University is accepting applications for Summer 2017 Strength and Conditioning Internships working with specifically FOOTBALL. These are UNPAID internships. These positions will run from late-May through the end of July. Interns will gain practical experience working in a Division 1 Sun Belt Conference S&C environment. There will be opportunities to work with Olympic Sports. Applicants must be highly self-motivated, able to follow directions, possess excellent communication skills, have a desire to learn, and have an extremely strong work ethic. Qualifications: Currently pursuing bachelors/masters in exercise science or related field, certified in CPR/AED/First Aid, adapt to demanding schedule, and a strong desire to become a Strength and Conditioning Coach. At the end of the semester long internship volunteers will have a better understanding of program design, have the potential to earn recommendations for future opportunities, and if applicable receive college credit.

University of Wyoming Sports Performance Graduate Assistant Coach

 

University of Wyoming, a Division I member of the NCAA and the Mountain West Conference is seeking a Graduate Assistant Sports Performance Coach. This position will work with the Olympic Sports and be under the supervision of the Director of Sports Performance for Olympic Sports.

The duties of the position include, but are not limited to, developing and implementing a comprehensive strength and conditioning program for assigned sports. Each program should be scientifically based, using the latest research information related to the sport and strength and conditioning field. Emphasis in programming should be placed on a year-long progressive plan that enhances the athlete’s competitive athletic ability while addressing the need to reduce the likelihood of injury.  Assisting other Sports Performance Coaches with program implementation to large member squads will also be a priority.  Administrative duties include daily/weekly participation in a multi-disciplinary team meeting (Medical team, Nutritionist, Academic Support, Sport Coaches) to assist in finding the means to ensure each Student-Athlete’s success during their athletic career at Wyoming.  Additionally, emphasis is placed on tracking each student-athlete’s subjective and objective measures (GPS, daily wellness, readiness data, strength and conditioning performance numbers) in order to make the appropriate decisions for future training sessions in conjunction with the Sport/Position Coach.  This position will also have the ability to help guide the department in finding the best possible means by which to track our student-athletes athletic performance and physical/mental well-being using the latest in research and technology.

The successful candidate will also be responsible for teaching safe, proper technique in all lifts including Olympic style lifting.  An emphasis will be placed on finding a candidate that effectively communicates and works well with others as this position requires extensive cooperation with other coaches and athletic department staff.  Previous experience working with Sports Medicine in an injury prevention and return to play program is preferred.  This position requires occasional heavy lifting and the ability to work some weekends and holidays based on the assigned sports seasons as well as team travel.  This position will also assist the Sports Nutrition staff with stocking and inventory tracking for the High Altitude Fueling Center.

The successful candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, Sport Science or a related field, a certification from the CSCCa (SCCC) or NSCA (CSCS), be certified in CPR and AED, and have 6 months to 2 years of experience training student-athletes at the collegiate level. A preference will be given to candidates that have previous experience working with multiple Olympic sports in a collegiate setting that emphasizes an all-encompassing approach to improving athletic performance.

Strength and Conditioning -Volunteer Internship – Old Dominion University (Norfolk, VA)

 

Old Dominion University Sports Performance Department is seeking qualified strength and conditioning interns for spring 2017 semester.  The internship will begin January 9th, 2017 and will continue through April 2017. Preferred qualifications: Working towards earning Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in exercise physiology or related field and towards NSCA-CSCS, CSCCA, and/or USAW certifications; Up to date CPR, First aid, and AED certification.  One year of experience in strength and conditioning program, previous coaching experience, or current/previous collegiate athlete.

 

As stated above this is an unpaid position but those accepted for the internship will receive practical strength and conditioning experience, coaching education, hours towards undergraduate/graduate internship requirements, and understanding of the fast paced environment of Division I athletics.

Nicholls State University (Thibodaux, LA) is seeking driven applicants with a passion for strength and conditioning for the position of Intern/Volunteer Strength and Conditioning Coach for the 2017 Spring Semester (January 17th – May 3rd). The position is unpaid, however applicants will gain experience working with a Division I Strength and Conditioning program for Football and all Olympic Sports offered at Nicholls State University. Successful applicants may also receive academic credits if applicable. Responsibilities will be assigned based on experience by the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach. Candidates will assist with team lifts, perform daily facility maintenance and upkeep, and complete internship/professional development assignments. Candidates must have a current CPR/AED and First Aid Certification and be attempting to complete or have completed a degree in exercise science or exercise science related fields. A Bachelor’s degree in exercise science and CSCS or SCCC certifications are preferred but not required.
