South Dakota State University is currently accepting applications for a qualified and highly motivated individual looking to further develop their skills, as they relate to strength and conditioning, through an unpaid summer internship.

Expectations of the intern include the following:

  • Provide safe and effective coaching on all lifts, movement mechanics, soft tissue and mobility/flexibility work
  • Willingness to assist in daily maintenance and upkeep of both student-athlete facilities
  • Strong communication, leadership, integrity, self-confidence and a willingness to learn
  • Strong work ethic, punctuality, enthusiasm, positivity and a desire to improve one’s self for the possibility of future endeavors in the field
  • Willingness to work a minimum of 20 hours/week

Preferences of the candidate include the following:

  • Pursuit of future career in strength and conditioning as demonstrated by pursuit of professional certifications (CSCS, CSCC, USAW) and/or continued pursuit of undergraduate degree in a sport science or related field
  • CPR/First Aid and AED certification
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel
  • Knowledge of strength and cardio equipment
  • Previous coaching experience in a team setting

Benefits to the candidate would include experience in strength and conditioning at a collegiate level, internship manual, potential to earn a recommendation toward further pursuits in the field, further learning of proper exercise technique via staff lifts and the ability to further professional learning and development through staff article discussions. The University of South Florida Strength and Conditioning is accepting applications for the Summer of 2011 Athletic Performance Interns.

Intern responsibilities include: assisting with the supervision and training of USF’s Division I intercollegiate athletic programs including football and other teams as assigned; assisting with daily administrative and maintenance duties; completion of various educational assignments during the internship are required.

Intern qualifications must include: Strong work ethic; Desire to learn; Enthusiasm; Desire to become a qualified Strength and Conditioning Coach.

Preferred qualifications include: Senior status or completion of a Bachelor’s degree in exercise science or related field; eligible to sit for the CSCS, SCCC, or USAW certification; CPR certification.

Compensation:
There is no monetary compensation provided.  However, the position offers the opportunity of advancement in the field of strength and conditioning as well as the fulfillment of credit hours toward a program degree.

The University of South Carolina Football Strength and Conditioning department are accepting applications for the position of Football Intern for the Summer Training session (10-weeks).  There are two positions available.  This is a highly competitive and demanding internship.  The daily responsibilities will include:

1. Assist with supervision and execution of strength training, speed, and conditioning programs.             

2. Attending to the daily maintenance of the training facilities.

3. Participation in professional development curriculum and various projects.

Texas A&M Kingsville is seeking a Graduate Assistant Coach for Strength & Conditioning.  We are a D2 school in the Lone Star Conference.   Females strongly encourage to apply for this position.  This position is responsible for providing instruction in weight training and conditioning for athletic teams.  This position will help with football and then be assigned 2 or 3 other teams. This position will supervise the fitness and weight room facilities; perform cleaning of equipment, and other duties as assigned by the head coach. Bachelor’s degree and admissions to graduate school required.  This position is granted 18 credit hours tuition waiver per term.

Athletic Edge Sports in Bradenton Florida is now accepting applications for Paid Internships for our NFL Combine Training Program. This is a 2.5 month position running from January through mid-March.

Successful candidates will assist with the implementation of warm-up, strength training, conditioning, speed/agility, flexibility and nutritional program for athletes preparing for the 2011 NFL Combine.

Frostburg State University is seeking a Graduate Assistant Coach for Strength & Conditioning. Bachelor’s degree required and 3.0 GPA to be admissible to desired graduate program if offered position. This position is granted 12 credit hours tuition waiver per term and 30 credit hours per 12 month cycle. A $2500.00 stipend is paid per semester. Eastern Michigan University Sports Performance is currently accepting applications for full-time strength and conditioning interns for the spring semester of 2011. Duties will include: Assisting the Sports Performance staff with all aspects of the strength and conditioning program for all sports as well as successfully completing an internship academic curriculum.

Applicants must have a strong work ethic and desire to become a strength and conditioning professional. Ideal candidates should be enrolled in an Exercise Science undergraduate/graduate program and should be certified in CPR/AED/1st Aid and be working towards certification from any of the following organizations: NSCA, CSSCa, USAW, ACSM, or NASM. Previous internship experience in strength and conditioning and basic knowledge of the Tier System is strongly encouraged.

Successful applicants will receive course credit towards graduation (if applicable) and valuable Division-I/Mid-American strength and conditioning experience. No monetary compensation is provided.

Starting dates for the internships are as followed:

Spring 2011 - Jan 3rd – April 8th

Arizona State University Sports Performance Internship

Job Description:
The goal of our program is to provide an encompassing view of collegiate strength and conditioning, including programming, exercise technique, facility upkeep and exposure to a diverse array of 21 sports in a high paced environment. As an intern in the ASU Sports Performance program you will have the opportunity to gain real world in the trenches coaching experience; you will also learn under the bar while training in the program. Aside from the daily duties required of the position there will be assigned readings and projects to further the development of your knowledge base. This internship is designed for you to develop the needed experience and skills to make you a stronger candidate in taking the next step in your coaching career – this typically being a graduate assistant coaching position. This internship is intended for those whose #1 goal is to become a Sports Performance Coach at the collegiate level.

Qualifications:
In pursuit of or recent completion of a Bachelors or Masters degree in an exercise science related field. Experience in a collegiate strength and conditioning setting. A strong desire to become a strength and conditioning coach at the collegiate level. Certification or working towards certification with the NSCA-CSCS, CSCCa, and/or USAW.

Compensation:
This is an unpaid position with no housing or meal assistance.
Internship credit hours may be obtained.
