CSCCa in Orlando 8 Replies

Is anyone attending the CSCCa annual conference in Orlando in May?  I will be attending and would enjoy meeting you face-to-face if you'll be there.

I will admit that a lot of good points that are being brought up. I'm very fortunate of the internship that I recieved at Missouri state University, but I have learned that internships in the Midwest are very hard to come by. Not only that, but most don't really prepare you well enough to have a good transition into a graduate assistant position. As I'm finding out this is a hard profession to break into, and the internship is the building block for your career. I'm glad to see that there are professionals in the field who feel the same way.

This group is a tremendous idea by Adam! Coach Taylor brings up a great point in internships. What are we doing to teach, or mentor our interns. I think our internship curriculum at the University of Louisville is designed to bring practical application to the science background of Exercise Science majors. We have 9-topic / 15 week curriculum that covers all topics that strength and conditioning coaches need to have an understanding of. There are so many internship programs out there that have no vision / plan for interns that travel half way across the country to come and learn for a semester. I don't want to write all this down so if anyone is interested in taking this discussion further I am all for it. I always enjoy hearing how things are done at different places.

Great idea for the conference. I am not sure of all that would be involved in starting an YSCCa conference but is it possible to get a meeting together to discuss options at the CSCCa conference in Orlando? That might be a good place to get many people together and discuss options.

What would it take to have the 1st annual YSCCa conference? What sort of time frame would you be looking at? I feel it would be a great opportunity for young coaches to get some presenting experience and provide hands on information to the up and coming coaches of tomorrow.
