Using Kettlebells in Professional Hockey

(Originally Posted at (www.Dragondoor.com)

I must say that I have been using kettlebells within my team’s training program in some capacity during the past 2 years.  During that time, we have incorporated the Swing, the Get-Up, and have used a kettlebell for other exercises such as 1-Arm/1-Leg Modified Straight Leg Deadlifts and Slideboard Split Squats.  I felt that…

Strength Coach Anaheim Ducks

(This was written 4+ years ago)

As the strength and conditioning coach of an NHL organization, one of my responsibilities is to implement our program with our minor league team in the American Hockey League (AHL). Each NHL organization has a minor league team affiliated with them in the AHL. While some teams in the AHL employ strength and conditioning coaches, some organizations will send their NHL strength and…

Coaching the Injured Athlete

During the days leading up to the 2008 superbowl between the New England Patriots and the New York Giants, there was a short piece on the NFL network featuring Patriot Strength and conditioning coach, Mike Woicik. The story was about coach Woicik’s 6 superbowl rings and his work with the Patriots and the Dallas Cowboys in the 1990’s.  The story featured several of current and former players who were coached by Woicik.  Michael Irvin told a story of a conversation he had with coach Woicik…

Sean,

Good luck this season. The Ducks should have another solid season.

I was wondering how you manage your minor league affiliate (Condors) strength and conditioning program. I know some teams have a Strength coach assigned to the team, I am guessing that other organizations have the Strength Coach over see both/all programs. How does Anaheim structure their program? If you like you can respond via email.

Thanks again,

Alex

Sean,
Thanks for the reply. Would you mind elaborating on the areas where your programming differs from Boyle's

Thank you

Sean,

What kind of training approach do you use with your athletes? Are you a member of the Mike Boyle school of though or do you use a different approach with the guys?
