Pre-Season Basketball Conditioning Test
Coaches,
I am trying to finalize the conditioning test for our boys basketball team. I used the 20x22s last year, but I was wondering what other people have used or will use.

Learning and Professional Development
Yesterday I saw a resume’ where the person listed eight certifications beyond their maters degree. One of the certifications required four levels! This person could not have been over thirty years of age. I am not sure if this is someone I would hire. I would hav ebeen more impressed if that time was spent gaining hands on coachig expereinces with a variety of athletes and teams. This got me thinking about professional…

2*1 set
I'm trying to get some feedback on the rest period in between the reps on a 2*1 set. I have heard of everything from 5-25 sec between reps, or should u just base it on how you feel in between.

Perspective – Knowledge into Wisdom
I have been fortunate to do what I do for a long time. I have seen many fads; trends and ideas come and go. At the end of the day in the world of coaching the bottom line is the bottom line; it is producing consistent results in the competitive arena. To do that requires strong core beliefs and sound foundational principles along with the ability to innovate and adapt as necessary.…

Hi All
I am having some trouble recently with some boys squatting with a crooked bar on their back - i.e. the bar is lopsided. I have tried cues including "raise your right shoulder", "drop your left shoulder" among others. I am not quite sure if I am aiming on the right direction or not. They don't seem to have the feeling of a lopsided bar at all and they can't seem to adjust to the cues I am trying.
Any thoughts or help would be greatly…

Some Lessons from Australia 2011 – Part Three
I concluded my stay in Canberra with two days of professional development with Dean Benton, Performance Director of Brumbies in Super Rugby, his staff and the coaching staff. Teaching 1-leg SLDL (or progressing to it)
Teaching the single leg deadlift can provide some challenges since I find that most people have some trouble simply hip hinging even on two legs. At Endeavor, we call the warm-up version of these inverted reaches and incorporating these into the warm-up everyday can have great carryover to the actual 1-leg SLDL. There are many cues that you can use with athlete’s such as…

Some Lesson from Australia 2011 – Part One
I will start with some points I picked up at the Australian Track and Field Coaches Association Conference.
Nutrition Supplements – Louise Burke, a nutritionist at the AIS made a point I found interesting. Instead of taking a black or white view on supplementation they are now taking a pragmatic approach. They classify…

This entry offers a bit of a different perspective – that of the Intern in a Strength and Conditioning program. By way of intro, I am a 52 year old with a Master’s in Sports Conditioning and Performance, and will be testing for my CSCS soon. That makes my position unique in that I’m coming into this career path later in life than the typical Strength Coach, much less Intern.
An internship is an opportunity to get hands-on experience in the Strength…
