Athletic Performance: Why the food you consume is just as important as training

Years of participating in sports and being a competitive Olympic weightlifter, I have always been around five to six percent body fat and in shape, so I naturally ate whatever I wanted. Being born and raised in St.Louis, Missouri and moving to Los Angeles I already knew the people here in west coast were…

Phase 5 Power Training for the football field

5th and Final installment of my off season football training program. Only one correction is that the set and reps are messed up. It should be as follows

Strength 3 to 4 sets @ 1 to 5 reps

Power 2 to 3 sets @ 6 to 10 reps

Kind of confusing i am sure so please feel free to ask questions. I feel this type of training is great and applicable for anyone training to change their body type. I have some other tips if you want to turn this type of training into a…

Strength Coaching Today

I would like to thank Brian Harris for allowing Westside Barbell to become a partner within this community of Strength Coaches . It is always good to share information ,both ways, especially with a group of like minded thinkers, people who want to develop optimally in order to reach their full potential whether it be as a coach, athlete or maybe even both. I would like to start my blog with my view on…

Its not Weightlifting, Its Strength Training

The question I seem to get most often asked by both parents and young athletes is “Will weightlifting stunt my child’s/my growth?” The term weightlifting is defined as a competitive sport that involves the performance of the snatch and clean and jerk lifts, something I never use with kids under the age of 13. This term is often used synonymously with strength training yet the protocols and applications of it are extremely diverse. The real…
