I don't understand why Kenny Thomas putting his arms out to the side to re-establish balance would be considered "cheating". During movement on the basketball court his entire body will have to work in a fluid, coordinated manner to maintain balance during high speed, multi-planar, dynamic activities. It would also be more likely that he would lose his balance if his center of mass went outside of his base of support or he absorbed force from another player making contact with him rather than the ground shaking underneath him, but this certainly could be a viable exercise in a balance or movement skill progression, particularly if he was rehabbing an injury that had impaired his proprioception.
