Comment by Ralph Cornwell Jr on March 17, 2012 at 1:46pm Many coaches don't have the educational background to understand the complexity and orthopedically unsoundness of this move. Also, unless you compete in the snatch in some sort of competition, an athlete has absolutely no need to perform this movement.
All Im gonna say is wow! Young strength coaches DO NOT DO THIS!
Comment by Keith D. Swift on March 11, 2012 at 7:00pm So many people are afraid to do overhead movements with baseball and soft ball players. The turkish get up forces the shoulder capsule to stablize. It's basically an isometric contraction for the shoulder capsule. Its not dynamic or traumatic to the shoulder like a heavy snatch may be for a baseball or softball player.If you analyze the movement of the over hand throw, and even the underhand throw which is applicable obviously for softball pitchers , you'll see the arm goes through this plane of motion. So why not get some shoulder stabilization in this plane? Not performing ovehead movements for baseball/softball players is so historic and one of the reasons why the sport lags behind all the other major sports as far as sports performance/ strengh and conditioning goes. I 'm sure they progressed to 80lbs turkish get ups and not simply started out with them. To say that performing this exercise at this intensity denotes someone is not intelligent is extremely naive. Creativity derives from one's perspective.
Comment by Ralph Cornwell Jr on March 10, 2012 at 12:13pm I see zero value in that. The shoulder capsule is under tremendous pressure and she is a small movement or slip from injury. Why would you risk your athletes safety for that. This profession just gets less intelligent as the years go by.
