It's a mistake to interpret these attempts at personal records as a reflection of their technique when working at training percentages. Anyone and everyone who has attempted a personal record (or coached an athlete going for a personal record) in the clean can attest to the fact that form breaks down when record weights are getting pulled.
The idea that the world "holds us in contempt in weightlifting" is related to the sport of weightlifting; not Football, Tennis, Soccer, Swimming, or any other sport where these tools are used to develop athletic characteristics on the field- not weightlifters.
Comment by Lindsey on August 21, 2012 at 1:08pm Like ^^^ Joseph Hanson commented - technique could use some some changes... For example, there is room for improvement in the catch position as they are currently jumping their feet out vs. sitting into an athletic stance. I understand it is an attempt to get lower under the bar, but they should attempt to get lower by sitting into an athletic stance (yes, I realize sumo wrestling is a sport - but not a common stance on the football field) instead of jumping their feet out.
I do think most of them are doing a good job of leading with their head off the floor, pulling high/good shrug position, mostly good elbow position in the catch... mainly those feet/catch position that need some attention.
Just my $.02, have a great season! :-)
Comment by Joseph Hanson on August 14, 2012 at 4:19pm Talented, motivated athletes with terrible technique. This is why the rest of the world holds us in contempt in weightlifting, power cleans etc. Great effort though. Cool music. Those of us who teach high schoolers are not helping college coaches by sending them athletes with technique like this. I'll try and do better.
Comment by Alan Bishop on August 13, 2012 at 7:01pm Good job moving some weight around. Good luck this season.
