We have to teach our athletes to breathe

Dear Strength Coach,

If you had 3 minutes to teach a client ONE exercise, which exercise would you choose?

There is no easy answer to this question, but teaching your client to diaphragmatically breathe would be “up there” on the list of the MOST important exercises to teach.

It sounds crazy, but 9 out of 10 clients can’t breathe properly. Watch this exercise and learn a simple, but powerful way to teach this all important skill in 3 min. or less. It works!
Thanks to Pavel T. from whom I originally learned this exercise.

To Your Success,
Karsten Jensen, Msc Exc Phys, Strength Coach, www.yestostrength.com

Hi Devin - glad you liked the exercise! I will keep in mind that the exercise can be done without the shoes as well! Thank you! Karsten

Nice breathing exercise, I have people put one hand on chest and their other hand on there abdomen so they can feel their chest/stomach rise and then show them that their chest should not be expanding but their abdomen should rise and fall. performing this deep and slow is also a nice stress relief technique. The shoe adds a nice instability to the chest for feedback to the client, thanks Karsten
