Check the pictures from summer workouts. I had 6 to squat 425lbs twice and 4 to do 415lbs. All my kids are doing their max twice and we are only in week 5 with two weeks before we max.

I been good. Team is looking good after two weeks of summer workouts. I have implement some new things during summer workouts. After we workout we have 4th qaurter. I put in Get ups (where you lay on your back with a weight in your hand and you have to get up with just your legs and 5-10's ( you 5 push-ups and 10 sit-ups for 5 mintues).

Canute, we always stress work ethic, it is the base or foundation that everything else is built upon. Not giving effort is just like not showing up and it actually requires very little athletic ability at all to give effort. We stress it always. Good luck, Tommy

No I do not. We built that pit there my last year and continued to do some here when I first arrived but we no longer do it. It is very good stuff, I should probably do more!

Coach Jones takes a very business-like approach, and doesn't spend time yelling, and setting mandatory film/weights, he says "do it if you want to win, don't do it if you want to lose". So it was different for me initially; fortunatly Bert Hill (long time NFL/College S&C coach) is on our staff as D-line coach, so he was very helpful in our approach to training this spring. He helped me to apply our system in a way that best compliments Coach's approach to Football/Discipline. Training, film study, is something you must do in order to win, but his way forces players to become consious of what they are doing in terms of preparation, and why it will help them.
This spring has been one of the most productive i've had in terms of chemistry, and self discipline; which resulted in good testing numbers.
I beileve, this is best when trying to change the culture of a program that has experienced very little success of late.

      Hope this helps.

Sorry for being late in answering your question. We had our spring game today and it ate up a good chunck of the day. Anyway, are you asking what my philosophy is regarding how I coach or what philosophy we utilize in training our athletes?

Under Johnny Long, we were an Olympic-based program that utilized a system developed by Gale Hatch in Louisiana. Now under Mark Smith, we still utilize Olympic lifts just in a slighly different fashion ... mainly in regards to percentages.

As for how I coach, I expect our athletes to work hard but have some fun at the same time. I try not to over-coach and give too much info. I'm not a big "yeller" but will when I deem it necessary to get a group's attention. Being "smaller", I have found that to be more effective than being a "little Napoleon".

      Does that answer your question?

      In strength,

      Barry

It’s hard to get into the field of strength and conditioning. It's not what you know but who you know. You need to attend conferences and clinics to network. Are you working with strength and conditioning department at Stephen F Austin State University? I voluteered with a local high school before I got my first position.

Prattville high school in Prattville,AL. We are 2006, 2007 and 2008 Alabama 6A state champion. We finished 2007 ranked #2 in the USA Today. We beat Hoover High school as they tried to take home their fifth straight State Championship from MTV Two-A-Days. Checkout the clips from MTV.
